James E. Schiff, 86, of Newburgh, IN, passed away January 18, 2015, at Signature Health Care. He was born January 25, 1928, in Evansville, IN.
Jim served with the Indiana State Police from 1952-1972. After retiring, he worked as a Sergeant of Security at Bristol-Myers from 1972-1989. To remain active in later years, he worked at Hertz at Evansville Regional Airport.
He led an active life as an involved family man. He coached his boys in baseball and watched his kids and grandkids play hundreds of basketball games. He also enjoyed traveling and bowling.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Elizabeth Schiff; brothers, Clarence, William and Gilbert; and sister, Mary Jane Koenig.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janice Schiff of Newburgh; children, Kim (Cathy) Schiff, Debra (Rick) Kiesel, Clayton (Christi) Schiff, Donald Schiff, Joseph (Amy) Schiff Rodney (Kathy) Schiff and Jaime (Brett) Quirk; 13 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; sisters, Jeanette Schenk, Betty Godfrey, and Marjorie Roth; sister-in-law, Audrey Schiff.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at St. John the Baptist Church, officiated by Fr. Tom Kessler. Friends may visit Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Alexander Newburgh Chapel and Wednesday from 9:00 A.M. until service time at the church.
The family would like to thank Signature Healthcare and Gentiva Hospice.
