

James “Jim” Louis Taylor, 89, of Newburgh, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2014, at Hamilton Pointe Health & Rehabilitation. He was born April 2, 1925, in Evansville, IN, to the late Louis Edward and Bertha Mary (Elikofer) Taylor.
He graduated from Bosse High School in 1943 and also attended the Mechanic Arts High School, where he studied Structural Steel Drafting. He served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII, where he was stationed in Europe with the 95th Troup Carrier Squadron. Jim worked at International Steel and was a firefighter for the Evansville Fire Department for 32 years, beginning his career in 1948 and retiring in 1980. He was treasurer, director and CEO of Evansville Fireman’s Federal Credit Union, retiring as a manager in 1995. Jim was a lifelong member of Bethel United Church of Christ, and a member of Masonic Lessing Lodge #464, Scottish Rite, Hadi Shrine, Warrick County Shrine Club, Swords of Bunker Hill, Major of the Uniform Bodies, and was a Kentucky Colonel. He was also a charter member and past president of the Hadi Motor Corps.
Jim’s greatest joy was attending and being involved with his beloved grandchildren’s many activities during their school years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, John E. Taylor; and brother, Willard Connelly.
Jim is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 66 years, Arline (Noelle) Taylor; son, Ritchie Taylor; grandchildren, Devin Nathaniel and Caitlyn Nicole Taylor; his grandchildren’s mom, Cathy Taylor; nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 29, 2014, at Bethel United Church of Christ, 3029 North Green River Road, Evansville, officiated by Rev. Joe Schulte and Rev. Donald Bernhardt with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit Friday, November 28, 2014, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261, Newburgh.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or Bethel United Church of Christ.
