He was a member of Newburgh United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. John retired from ALCOA after 38 years and was a member of the 25 Year Club at ALCOA. He loved golf, bowling and traveling.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Betty J. Bateman; daughter, Barbara Rose; son, John W. Bateman (Kathleen) of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, Stefanie Schwenk (Rob), Douglas Rose (Michelle), Lisa Bateman; great grandchildren, Katie, Ella, Justin, Nicholas and Nathan.
Services will be 1:00 PM, Wednesday, August 15, 2012, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, officiated by Dr. Todd A. Gile, with entombment at Oak Hill Mausoleum. Friends may visit Tuesday, 4-8 PM at the funeral home.
