Martha Kelly-Berry of Newburgh, was born July 28, 1956 to Virginia Nell Goffinet and Huber Lee Giles. After a long battle with Glioblastoma, Martha peacefully went to be with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ surrounded by family on January 13, 2022. She was 65 years old.
Martha was raised in Louisville, Ky. graduating from Western High School in 1974 and Beauty College in 1985. Martha went on to be a hairstylist where she very much enjoyed the life-long friendships she made in her chair. She worked at Caribbean Sun for 15 years and Beauty Care Center for 3 years. However, Martha began her beauty career much earlier, at the early age of 10, where she would do the children’s hair in her neighborhood.
Martha was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother and a tireless friend to many including the many beach friends she made along the way. She consistently embodied selfless service to others and would do anything to help others in need. Her friends and family will sorely miss her loving heart and sparkling personality!
She is survived by her husband, Marty Berry of Newburgh; her daughters, Sarah Wheatley (Troy) of Louisville, Ky, Leslie Whitworth (Doug) of Mt Washington, Ky., and Holly Byers (Kevin Shekell) of Evansville; her sisters, Debbie Ernspiker (Dennis) of Crestwood Ky. and Peggy Giles of Louisville, Ky.; brother, Frank Giles (Brenda) of Ringo, Ga., and seven grandchildren.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, and beloved sister and brother, Gola Perkins and David Giles.
The family would like to thank Idella Birkhead and Heart 2 Heart Hospice for their compassionate care of Martha.
A Memorial Service will be 4:00 p.m., Sunday, January 16, 2022 at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261. Family and friends may visit Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers and in honor of Martha’s loving spirit please be kind to someone. Donate your old clothes to the needy, call your loved ones, hold open a door for a stranger, write a letter to a soldier or extend grace to someone where it may not be deserved or you can donate to a few local children who lost their father to glioblastoma recently. Their dad, Brad Leath, was an inspiration and motivator in Martha’s fight to defeat cancer.
