

Mary Margaret (Wiegele) Jones, 93, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2011, at Richmond Place Health Center in Lexington, KY. A native of Carmi, IL, she was the daughter of the late George Edward and Eva Grace (Schauberger) Wiegele.
Mary Margaret graduated from Carmi High School in 1935. After graduation she worked at the Carmi Times newspaper. She met her future husband, Callis Jones, a native of Webster County, KY, while he was working at the A&P in Carmi; they married in 1936. For a short period they lived in Mt. Carmel, IL but Mary Margaret and Callis spent most of their married life in Evansville and Newburgh, IN, where they owned the Village Market Grocery.
As a young mother, Mary Margaret was active in the school activities of her daughters. She was active as a Brownie leader and the PTA at Harper Grade School in Evansville. Callis and Mary Margaret retired in 1969 and spent time enjoying their family, gardening, playing bridge and traveling. After Callis' death in 1992, she moved from their Newburgh home of over 40 years to Devonshire Gardens Apartments in Evansville. In the fall of 2000, Mary Margaret moved to Lexington, where she was one of the first residents of Hartland Hills Retirement Home; while there she was active in the choir and bridge groups.
Mary Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Callis A. Jones; parents, George and Eva Wiegele; sister, Georgine Aud Bemarkt; brother, Louis Wiegele; step-brother, Eddie Wiegele; and son-in-law, Russell J. Moore.
She is survived by daughters, Barbara Moore of East Peoria, IL and Carole (William) Palmer of Lexington, KY; grandson, William Palmer, Jr. of Lexington; granddaughter-in-law, Bridget Lemon Palmer of Ashland, KY; great-grandsons, Nick (Savannah) Palmer of Richmond, KY, and Joe Palmer, of Ashland, KY; great-great-grandsons, Jimmy and Will Palmer of Richmond, KY; half-brother, Bill Behler of Hazelwood, MO; sister-in-law, Ama Lee Lenfers; brother-in-law, B.W. Jones; nephews, Charles (Beverly) Lenfers, Alan (Kitte) Jones, all of Evansville, George (JoAnn) Wiegele of Sutton MA, Dennis (Pam) Aud of Fitchburg WI; nieces, Betty (A.G.) Shelton of Central City, KY, Ann Burdette and Patsy Bruce; step-grandson, Billy (Vicki) Moore of East Peoria, IL; three step-granddaughters, Mary (Kevin) Keil of East Peoria, IL, Beth (Jack) Watson of Naperville, IL and Ann Moore of Naples, FL; and eight step-great-grandsons.
Services will be 1:00 PM Thursday, May 19, 2011, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, officiated by Rev. Dan Gross, with burial in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery in Webster County, KY. Friends may visit Thursday from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
