

Melinda Lou”Bodie” (Girvin) Hyatt, 70, of Newburgh, IN departed this life on May 2, 2023. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Roger Hyatt; aunts, Jane Huddleston, Adeline Ashby and Frances Girvin; special close friends; sister -in-law, Mary Martha Voigt, and two nieces and six nephews.
She was born in Evansville, IN at St. Mary's Hospital as a preemie of 2 pounds ¼ ounce. She was predeceased in death by her father, Harry Girvin, Jr.; mother, Flo Ella Girvin; stepmother, Ellen Girvin and siblings, Victor Voigt, Mark Voigt, Sr., Patti Ann Healy and in-laws, Argiree and Jack Hyatt.
Bodie attended Henry Reis School and North High School graduating in 1971. She was a cheerleader for seven years. She earned her radiology diploma from Deaconess Hospital and was credentialed in radiography. Bodie began her career in 1973 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, IN where she worked for 18 months in the radiology department. She continued her career working for Dr. Maresse, orthopedist, then joining the Radiology department at Welborn Baptist Hospital where she worked for 23 years. She finished her career working for St. Mary's Hospital and Ohio Valley Heart Care in nuclear medicine until she retired in 2017.
She was an active member of the Indiana Society of Radiologic Technologists (ISRT) where she helped with numerous conferences. She was a member of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT).
She taught water aerobics and exercise classes for both Deaconess and St. Mary's hospitals. In her spare time, she loved to play softball, bowl, walk with her beloved dogs Taz and Toby, and enjoyed going out with her friends. Bodie was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Newburgh, IN.
A service conducted by Pastor Dan Kennedy will be held at Zion United Church of Christ, 10 W. First St. Newburgh, Indiana on Saturday, May 6th at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the service time. Private burial will be held at a later date.
The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to AsceraCare Hospice, especially Kendra (RN), Sara (CNA), and all the staff for their care over the past few months during her battle with cancer. Bodie would like to give special thanks to Brandi, Eyer, LPN and Dr. Melinda Jackson and staff and the special close friends who gave her support through this journey.
