Peggy was born on December 3, 1935, in Kirkwood, Missouri. She graduated from Kirkwood High School and, after high school, dedicated her life to being a loving homemaker, caring for her husband and raising their five children.
She had many passions, including gardening, quilting, bowling, and playing Bunco and Canasta. Peggy also enjoyed working on puzzles, cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals and the LSU Tigers, and going on family trips. One of her favorite pastimes was going to lunch with her friends and then “going bummin’.” She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, showing them her flowers, teaching them how to garden, and sharing her love for quilting. Peggy was a devoted member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Newburgh.
She is survived by her children: daughters Michelle (Mike) Kelley and Mindy (Art) George; sons William “Buddy” Shelton and Gregory (Teresa) Shelton. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Lee, Brian, Jesse, Danielle (Blake), Molly (Jason), Alexandria, Mitchell, Owen, Kyle (Sarah), and Alex (Alyssa); and great-grandchildren: Amelia, Declan, Eliza, Mason, Ayven, Anya, Mila, and Sophie. Additional survivors include her sister-in-law, Barbara (John) Schmittzehe; brother-in-law, Tommy (Mary) Shelton; and several nieces and nephews.
Peggy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, William “Bill” Shelton; her son, Mitchell “Gene” Shelton; her parents, Evelyn Richards and Grady Whitecotton; her sister, Betty Whitecotton; and sister-in-law, Shirley (Johnny) Moliter.
