Obituary of Richard "Dick" M. Lant
Richard “Dick” M. Lant, 72, of Newburgh passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 surrounded by family. He was born August 6, 1949 in Evansville to the late Robert and Gertrude (Vanada) Lant. He was a graduate of Castle High School and Purdue University, where he earned degrees in Industrial Supervision and Aviation Maintenance. He was a Captain in the US Air Force serving as a rescue and recovery helicopter (HH 43) pilot. He married the love of his life, Lisa Suzanne Hatfield in April of 1973 before being stationed in NKP, Thailand during the Vietnam War Era. Richard also enjoyed assignments in Alabama, Utah, Texas and finally Wyoming before moving back to Indiana in 1977 while expecting their beloved daughter, Allison. After returning home he worked on the family farm with his dad and brothers, then with Wagner Seed and Fertilizer before retiring from AFCO in Boonville, where he was a research and development engineer who designed and made exhaust headers for race cars. Richard's attention to detail and precision led to an intense interest in how things worked, building his own computer in 1977. One of the biggest joys in life were his grandchildren and enjoying time with his daughter and son-in-law. He has always been the best husband, dad, PawPaw, brother and brother-in-law and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Richard is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lisa S. (Hatfield) Lant; daughter, Allison “Allie” M. Cavins (Paul); grandchildren, Lant P. Cavins and Marie S. Cavins; brothers, Thomas R. Lant (Terry) and Mark E. Lant; sister, Susanne M. Williamson (Rick), as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. A Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. Military rites will be performed by Kapperman Post #44. Friends and family may visit 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 21, 2022 and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at JDRF.org or to the Veterans Monument at Rose Hill Cemetery check to be made out to Rose Hill Cemetery/WAA Monument .
