Obituary of Rudolf Fischer
Rudolf Fischer passed away Thursday, April 11, 2019 at the age of 90. He was born on July 25, 1928 in Schwerte, Germany. Rudolf was 16 years old, working as an apprentice electrician when he was drafted into the Wehrmacht. Sent to the Eastern front, Rudolf was in Leipzig when his company surrendered to the allies in 1945. He returned home and became a journeyman electrician. He stayed in Kolping hostels while working in Karlsruhe, then worked with his brother Reinhold in his brother’s painting business in Freiburg. In 1951, Rudolf immigrated to Canada. He worked in the Sangudo, Alberta area as an electrician and owned an electrical supply store. He met his wife, Adoline Eisner, in Edmonton, Alberta. They married in 1953. In 1964 he and his family immigrated to the United States, eventually settling in Newburgh, Indiana where he worked as an electrician, building the Alcoa plant and other projects until his retirement. Rudolf was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Newburgh, and a 3rd-degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Rudolf is survived by his children Rosemary Fischer-Murphy, Ingrid (William) Koressel, Gisela, and Gerald (Shelly); his grandchildren Michaela Whitmore, Christina Murphy, William Koressel, Michael and John Fischer; his great-grandchildren Aiden and Collin Murphy; his sister and brother Maria Theresia Kroos and Franz; and his friend and companion for the last five years, Laura Lee Brown. Rudolf was predeceased by his wife, Adoline Eisner; his parents Clemens and Klara (Schoppol) Fischer; and his brothers and sisters Reinhold, Heinz, Josef, Bernhardine, Clemens, Eugen, Werner and Klara. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2019 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 625 Frame Road, Newburgh, IN. Visitation will be held 9:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church.
