Sandra Lou Porter

Sandra Lou Porter (“Sandy”) of Newburgh, Indiana passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2026 at the age of 84. She was born on December 21, 1941 in Miami, Florida, and was the second child of Lou and Gladys Bolander. Sandy lived in Miami with her parents and wonderful older sister, Anne, until the family moved to Newburgh when Sandy was still in elementary school.

Sandy married Charles Allen Porter (“Charlie”) in 1960, and they had five active children. Sandy was a homemaker who loved attending her children’s events (basketball, baseball, football, volleyball, tennis, gymnastics, choir, theatre and drama). Her children could always count on her unwavering support in whatever they chose to pursue in life without judgment.

Sandy was a talented horseback rider and had fond memories of trail rides with her sister Anne. She enjoyed playing bridge with friends, especially after Charlie retired and the couple moved to Lake Barkley where she was a proud member of the Cadiz Red Hats. Sandy almost always had a dog she cared for and loved, but her labradoodle Tucker stole her heart. She was a voracious reader and loved all kinds of movies and music. She always enjoyed good conversation.

Sandy is survived by her loving husband, Charlie; her sister, Anne M. Ashby; her five children, L. Montogomery Porter (Susan), Keely J. Porter (Kim), Natalie K. Colvin (Tim), Nicholas A. Porter (Lara, deceased), and E. Paige Freitag (Christian); and seven grandchildren, Katherine J. Rosin (Eric), Nicholas C. Colvin (Laci), Samuel M. Porter, Leslie A. Porter (Hannah), Jessica N. Porter, Samuel Haywood-Pfender and Danielle Haywood-Pfender.

The family would like to thank Visiting Angels and Heart to Heart Hospice of Evansville, especially nurse Brandee at the hospice house, for the care and compassion they showed Sandy and her family in her final days.
