He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints since May, 1987. Tom retired as a Maintenance Mechanic at ALCOA in 1992. He served in the U.S. Army.
From Tom’s children: No one enjoyed laughing more at himself than our father. He thrived on humor and loved life. He was also a man of so much patience, and we thank him for not killing us during our rambunctious teenage years. He knew how to enjoy life, and he loved having fun, whether it was spending time with his family or traveling the world. You know someone has lived a good life when they’ve gone to Disney World over 150 times. Dad always had a way with stories. One he loved telling us about was how fast he was as a child. With an amazing range of facial expressions he would captivate me as he told of his exploits. Arms swinging up and down like a steam locomotive, he would tell of running all over the neighborhood displaying his speed and agility, only meeting his match when he was knocked unconscious by a Model T Ford; not quite able to make it across the street before the machine struck. As I grew to a teenager, fully confident of my own athletic ability, his alleged speed seemed a little dated. Tire of my taunting, he agree to race me. He absolutely “smoked me.” He was fast. Tom loved growing plants. I recall him trying for years, maybe decades, to grow a Magnolia tree from a seed. He talked to me many times scratching his head about how he didn’t understand why it wouldn’t sprout. He tried everything, and all the while the twenty foot Magnolia tree in the neighbor’s yard across the street taunted him. After forever, it seemed just by chance he threw some seeds in a small terrarium that housed a few other plants. Sure enough, the tree finally sprouted and grew. He was so excited. Once he had his mind set he wouldn’t give up until he was successful. It is an old school lesson that many should remember.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Phyllis; sons, Jeffrey Kincaid (Judy) and Donald Myers, Jr. (Angela); daughters, Kelley Fentress (Jeffrey) and Sabrina Myers; grandchildren, Jason Blair (Brooke), Alex Kincaid, Megan Glenn, Zachery Myers, Joshua Glenn, Casey Myers, and Travis Myers; sister Sally Diaz (Luis); and several nieces and nephews.
