Vicky Lynn Barnes, 70 years old, went home to hear Jesus say, "Well done, good and faithful servant", on May 9th, 2025, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital. She was visited by family and friends who cared very deeply for her. She will be missed by those who love her. Heaven's gain was our loss.
Vicky was born to Shelby and Doris Embry on January 30th, 1955, in Evansville, Indiana. Over the years, she worked at Zenith, Qualex, and Albion Fellows Bacon Center. Vicky also served many years as a stay-at-home mom and homeschool teacher.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, husband Billy Barnes, who passed away February 2nd, 2025. She was also preceded in death by her father, Shelby Embry; mother, Doris Embry; sister, Sheila Shofstall; brothers, Shelby Gene Embry, Butch Embry, Shelby Silas Embry Jr (Bugs), and Melvin Embry.
She is survived by her son, William C Barnes Jr., who she dearly loves and is so proud of the man he has become; her daughter-in-law, Rachel Barnes who she loves very much and was so glad she became a part of our family; her two granddaughters, Coraline Barnes and Mary Ann Barnes who she loves, adores and cherishes. She is also survived by her sister, Lisa Embry, who she always wanted by her side. She also leaves behind many cousins, church family, and friends. She deeply loved these people and all those who were close to her.
Vicky Barnes lived her life as a light for Christ. She was a light that shone so brightly her happiness and cheer were contagious. She truly lived out her faith in God in everything she did. She glorified our Father in heaven by how she worshiped, shared her faith, hugged her friends, took people to lunch, listened to others, and opened her home. She embodied Matthew 5:16, which says, "In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven."
Vicky always enjoyed time with her family. Whether it was eating out or playing cards, she was content to be with those she loved. She loved her community at Sojourn Church, and they loved her. No Sunday was complete without an after-church lunch with her friends.
The last few months of Vicky's life were marked by loss, grief, and struggle. A traumatic car accident, a cancer diagnosis, reparative surgeries, and multiple hospitalizations interrupted her life. However, it was the passing of her husband, Billy, in February that left a hole that could never be filled. It was with deep faith and hope that she longed for Home. She embraced her transition from this life with open arms, a clear mind, and a grounded conviction that she was leaving this world for a space she would share with the presence of God and His people. In her final days, she quoted the Apostle Paul from Philippians 1:21, "To live is Christ, but to die is gain."
The Barnes Family wants to thank everyone who visited Vicky and prayed for her and our family, who brought gifts, food, and words of encouragement and support. Thank you to those who sat with her, stayed for a while, and even stayed all night. You truly shared our sorrow and walked with us in suffering.
