Vivian was born October 31, 1933, along with her twin sister, Virginia, to parents Genevieve and Joseph Lenherr, in Flush KS. She grew up on the family farm with her seven siblings then moved to the city, Manhattan, KS, to live with her sisters and work. It was there that she met William “Bill” Daywalt, while he was serving in the Air Force. They married in 1954 and returned to Bill’s home, Evansville, IN. Vivian was the epitome of a pioneer woman, settling in a new place, raising five children, cooking, cleaning, doing laundry with a wringer washer, helping with homework, stoking a coal furnace, tending a garden, canning, stretching meals, and sewing many of the clothes worn by her girls.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Catherine Daywalt in 2011, her husband, Bill in 2012, and her brothers, Giles, Bernard, and John Lenherr.
Vivian is survived by her children, Joseph Daywalt, who lived with her, Diane Floyd and her husband Mark of Newburgh, Michelle Childers of Newburgh, and Christopher Daywalt and his partner, Christianne Bradley of Los Angeles; her grandchildren, Evan Childers, Thomas Childers, Chelsea Childers, Caleb Childers, Chad Childers, and Steven Inverso; three great grandchildren, Ethan, Kylie, and Keric; her siblings in Kansas, twin sister, Virginia Cochran, sisters, Margaret Hysell and Kathleen Noll, and brother David Lenherr; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Walter Daywalt, Frank Daywalt, Raymond and Shirley Daywalt, Donald Daywalt and Stanley and Rose Mary Daywalt, (her special friend), Barbara Ludwig and Phyllis Jean and Harry Plouse; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be 7:00 PM Monday, October 31, 2016, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, officiated by Rev. Dan Gross, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may visit Monday from 4:00 PM until service time at the funeral home.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Deaconess VNA Charlier Hospice Center and Sister Jenny for their special care and many kindnesses assisting Vivian on her final earthly journey.
In lieu of flowers, please make a gift to Deaconess VNA Hospice in memory of Vivian and Bill, or to a Favorite Charity.
