William (Billy) C. Barnes Sr., 70 years old, of Newburgh, Indiana, went to be with Jesus on February 2, 2025, at 5:50 a.m. at Deaconess Gateway Hospital. He was visited by family and friends who cared deeply for him very much. He will be missed by those who love him. Heaven’s gain was our loss.
Billy was born on May 16th, 1954, in Yankeetown, Indiana, to Edward and Cordie Barnes. He graduated from Boonville High School in 1972. After high school, he worked as a plumber’s assistant for Kent Plastics and then for the Warrick School Corporation in the maintenance department. He retired after 30 years. After a while, he returned and helped mowing the grounds part-time in the summer.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Barnes; his mother, Cordie Barnes (Hashfield); his brother, Tom Barnes; his sister-in-law, Diane Barnes (Stewart) and his friend, Richard Thomas.
He is survived by his wife, Vicky Barnes (Embry) of 42 years of marriage, who is the love of his life. She loves and misses him sooooo much. His son, William C Barnes Jr., who he dearly loves and is so proud of the man he has become; his daughter-in-law, Rachel Barnes who he loves very much and was so glad she became a part of our family; his 2 granddaughters, Coraline Barnes and Mary Ann Barnes who he loves, adores and cherishes. They were papaw’s girls. His brother, Kenny Barnes (Lily); his sister-in-law, Lisa Embry, and many nephews and nieces, cousins, church family and friends. He deeply loved these people and all those that were close to him.
Billy was a special man. He was a kind-hearted, gentle, loving man who loved his family immensely. He was so patient and never raised his voice. He loved Jesus and he would talk to others about Him when given the opportunity.
Billy loved old westerns, Leave it to Beaver, Andy Griffith, classic country music, old cars, and shows about fixing cars up. He loved his community at Sojourn Church, and they loved him. He enjoyed making the coffee for them and sitting and talking with others. He loved picking up his son for church and the time they got to spend riding together nearly every Sunday for 15 years. He enjoyed trips with the guys to Colorado. His routine was defined by picking up his granddaughters from school and going to their activities. He was grateful for his time with them.
The Barnes Family wants to thank everyone who visited Billy and prayed for him and our family, who brought gifts, who brought food, and who brought words of encouragement and support. Thank you to those who sat with us, stayed for a while, and even stayed all night. You truly shared our sorrow.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Sojourn Church and on February 6th from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. with Services starting at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Jeremy Lalk will be conducting the service. The resting place will be at Bates Hill Cemetery in Yankeetown, Indiana.
