William Edward Pierce, 99, of Newburgh, IN, passed away on Friday, July 19, 2019, at Linda E. White Hospice House. He was born on May 27, 1920, in Herrin, Illinois, to the late Charles “Dewey” and Bessie Leona (Spangler) Pierce.
William was a decorated WWII Army Veteran who served in the South Pacific from 1941-1945. He was a founding member of Gateway Baptist Church.
William is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Bernadine; daughters, Janice Patton, Julie McIntosh and Gayle Hall; grandson, Jeffery Miller (Jodi) and granddaughters, Amanda Driol (Daniel) and Amie Roach (Chris); great grandchildren, Katlyn Holman Roach, Hudson Miller, Karlie Holman Roach, Addison Miller, and Mason Driol; and nieces; nephews; great nieces and nephews; and great great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his brothers, Charles A. Pierce and Kenneth R. Pierce; son-in-laws, Harold Patton, Steve McIntosh, and Gene Hall.
Friends may visit Sunday, July 21, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Alexander Newburgh Chapel. Service to follow officiated by Rev. Glenn Mollette. Private entombment will be held Monday at Park Lawn Cemetery.
