Born on January 22, 1947, to Gladys Hill and Eddie Elkin Guyton, Alfred lived life on his own terms – curious, witty, and strong-willed. He was known for his intelligence, sense of humor, and the kind of honesty that could make you laugh, even when you disagreed.
He married the love of his life, Pamela, and together they celebrated 50 years of marriage, filled with humor, devotion, and the occasional friendly debate. He was a proud father to Nicole (Maria) and Jennifer; and he was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Stephanie. He adored his grandchildren, Lexi and Xavier, and was "GrandPaw" to his cherished fur-grandbabies, Gizmo and Zoe. He also leaves behind his brother, Charles (Laura) , along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends who will remember him fondly.
Alfred earned his Associate in Arts from the Loop College and a Bachelor of Arts from Roosevelt University. His professional journey reflected his wide, ranging interests and talents: worked with special needs adults, was a Certified Cardiopulmonary Technologist, taught Computer Science at his Alma Mater Hales Franciscan High School, and later became Executive Director of the Institute for Consumer Credit Education, where he helped people build better financial futures.
A lifelong learner and adventurer, Alfred was a certified scuba diver, photographer, Trekkie, and motorcycle enthusiast . Whether he was underwater exploring , behind the camera capturing a perfect shot, or cruising on his bike, he enjoyed life in his own thoughtful and steady way.
Alfred found faith and meaning not in rituals or pews, but in everyday moments, good conversation, and laughter...the simple joys of life. True to form, even his last words were said in jest – reminding everyone around him not to take life too seriously. He wanted to be remembered with stories and laughter, not sadness.
As he 'd say, with a knowing grin: "Free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty I am free at last."
A memorial visitation for Alfred will be held Monday, November 3, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 W. 103rd Street, Oak Lawn, IL, followed by a prayer service from 5:00 PM to 5:30 PM.
