In 1962, Betty graduated from Englewood High School in Chicago. She held a variety of jobs throughout her life. These included Spiegel Warehouse, Kaplan Shoes, Sears and Guarantee Reserve Insurance Company where she retired from in 1999. In addition to these jobs, she cared for the sick and prepared income taxes. She was also very creative as a seamstress, hairstylist and makeup artist. Being an artist at heart, Betty created ceramics and paintings for her home and for others. She was also very active in the Golden Gates community, organizing activities such as field trips, parades, and dance groups for the neighborhood youth. She was a leader in the Block Club as well. She always said she was a jack-of-all-trades, but a master of none.
Betty married the handsome Carter R. Robinson in 1960 and to this union Carlita and Carlashawn were born whom she loved very much. She was a very loving and devoted daughter to her mother, Matilda. She loved her family and friends very much and enjoyed all the great times they shared together dancing and listening to music. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. Some of her famous dishes were rice pudding, yeast rolls, hot water cornbread, dressing and many other dishes. She made the holidays a special time for everyone.
Betty loved to dance to Oldies-but-Goodies, R&B and Blues music with her family and have a good time. She loved to read, go to the movies, and go out to eat. She always had a good ear for listening to you and a hug to give. She loved beautiful nails and hers were always fabulous. She liked to admire others' nails as well. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and had a great time at their events. She enjoyed her exercise class at the community center twice a week with her friends. She loved African culture and always loved going to the African festival. She also really loved going to the Chicago lakefront during the summer to soak in the sun and the views. Her grandchildren kept her up to date with the times by teaching her how to use her iPhone, iPad and Facebook. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she felt so blessed to have seen them all become adults. She was blessed to be able to welcome her first great grandson Khari.
