Dear family and friends: I'm John Daniel Finerty (oldest boy of Edna McElroy Finerty).  My wife Karen and I send our deepest condolences to your extended family on Dan's passing.  One of my fondest memories is when he came to visit mom and dad immediately after the war and came in his summer tan uniform with all his battle ribbons.  As a little kids I was in awe, but he leaned over and tossed me in the air.  Then I mortified my mother by asking Dan to come outside with me and meet my friends so that they would believe me when  I told them I was related to a soldier and a brave on at that.

He laughed and stepped out the door with me and shook hands with every one I knew.

He visited my mom and dad on a regular basis, especially my mom in her last days.  I know he will be remembered forever by his very large family of two more generations of McFalls.

Treasure the moments you had with him and they will never fade.  Again our sympathy and God's blessings on every one of you.

Selvage/Barth Family,I am so sorry to hear of "young Dan"s passing. I am his second cousin on the McFall side, I am Edna's son. "Old Dan" was my Grand Uncle. When I was younger, and him too, I had some great times with he and Doris. He was a great guy and a good human. I'll remember him fondly. My condolences to all of the family.

Dear family members--Kathy Finerty here, Edna's daughter. Edna (McElroy) Finerty was of course Dan's cousin, and in recent years Dan kindly visited her several times when she was in & out of nursing homes. Love & condolences are also sent by my sister Judy (Finerty) Wolfe & her husband Norm & daughter Maggie. My brothers Thom & John will also be sad when they hear the news. Much love to you in your loss.

Selvage/Barth Family, I am so deeply sorry for your loss.  Kate, your grandfather was so amazing, me and Kyle always loved hanging out with him, especially when he taught us all a thing or two about poker!  We will miss those times with him, but cherish the memories he left in our hearts.  Someone as special as him, can never be forgotten.  Love, Kelly

Dear Grandpa, as I go through old pictures, I have such beautiful memories of you. I remember I would sit on your lap in the kitchen and we would watch Wheel of Fortune on the little tv in the corner. You taught me how to play all the card games, go fish, war, old maid, crazy 8's! You used to pull mini packs of peanut m & m's out from behind my ears, I actually told kids at school that my grandpa could pull candy out of my ears! I'll never forget the time I was helping you clean outside and you said "C'mon put some elbow grease into it!" and I said "Well where did you put it?"  Thank you for all the time you spent building me my dollhouse. I would get so excited to come over cause I would get to check out the progress.  I would walk around the table looking at all the intricate details and daydream about what was soon to be mine.  That was the most amazing gift I have ever received from anyone.  

I'm so mad at myself that I didn't have you write down your chicken and gravy recipe. That was such an awful looking meal but it was delicious!!  The first time you made it for me I said "I'm not gonna eat that, it looks gross" and you made me try it, I ended up eating almost all of it. 

I love you so much! I will miss you, but I am at peace knowing you are finally with the love of your life...give her a big hug and a kiss for me. Tell Jimmy that not a day goes by that I don't think of him.  I love you! Rest in Peace Grandpa
