

James E. Bentley, age 97, of Chicago, IL; born September 20, 1927; passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024. Loving husband of the late Patricia nee Horton for 70 years; proud father of Patrice (the late Larry) Hodges, Tom (Chris), Mike (Pam), John (Betty), Terry (Mary), Dennis (Judy), Steve (Leslie), Marcia (Robert) Valdez, Carol (John) Lesnak, Judy Gottardo, Bill (Jennifer) and Maureen (Dave) Fako; cherished grandfather of 35 and their spouses; devoted great-grandfather of 27; fond brother of the late Gloria (the late Joe) Standley and the late Mary (Bob) Merris; brother-in-law of the late Mary (the late James) Mossman; dearest uncle of many nieces and nephews.
For over 65 years, James was a very active member of St. Nicholas of Tolentine Parish and school community, especially the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He was a dedicated employee of High-Low Foods for 28 years, ultimately attaining the position of Vice President of Store Operations. He was General Manager of Marigold Services for 17 years. He was a World War II veteran who served on the USS Block Island, an escort carrier tasked with bringing American POWs back home.
Visitation Friday, January 3, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church, 3721 W. 62nd St. Chicago, followed by Funeral Mass 10:30 a.m. Interment St. Mary Cemetery, Evergreen Park.
