Jean Laverne Lawrence

Jean Laverne Lawrence, age 96, of Oak Lawn, Illinois, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2026. She was the beloved wife of the late Martin Joseph Lawrence and a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. Jean will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.

Jean and Martin shared 36 years together, and Martin was truly the love of her life. He preceded her in death in 1986, but Jean carried his memory and their love with her throughout the rest of her life.

She was the loving mother of the late Martin “Bud” (Ciprian), Steven (Nicole), Kimberly Mulcahy, Timothy (Christine), and Daniel (Steliana). She was the adored grandmother of Jennifer, Kelly, April, Keith, Tara, Michael, Erin, Allena, Madeleine, Claire, Clayton, Giuliana, and Stefania, and the cherished great-grandmother of 23 great-grandchildren. She was also a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Jean was a woman who found joy in the simple things and brought her own special personality to everything she did. She was a devoted Chicago Cubs fan, a passionate Chicago Bears and Northwestern Wildcats supporter and, as her family will happily tell you, definitely NOT a Chicago White Sox fan!

Jean was an amazing cook, and there are far too many favorite recipes to name. Her pineapple upside-down cake and blueberry pie were especially loved, and dessert was a tradition she made sure happened every night. She also had a special talent for making deviled eggs a family favorite even though she never ate them herself! Her cooking was one of the many ways she showed her love for her family.

Jean had a special love for dogs, who held a cherished place in her heart. Her affection for them was just another reflection of her warm, caring, and tender nature.

She was also an avid gardener who lovingly tended to her flowers and even mowed her own lawn. She loved soaking up the sun while wading at Lawn Aqua and, because she never drove, she rode her bicycle everywhere. Jean enjoyed cozy evenings by the fireplace with a glass of wine and had a special fondness for White Castle. She had a lifelong love of bowling and could often be found at the lanes, enjoying good company and a friendly game. She also had a sweet tooth and especially loved chocolate covered cherries, they were one of her favorite treats.

Jean lived life with independence, determination, humor, and heart. She created countless memories for her family through her cooking, gardening, traditions, love of dogs, and unmistakable personality. Her love and presence will live on in the many lives she touched.
