Joan Roslyn Alfich (nee Franek) passed away December 11, 2018 at the Grace of Douglas skilled nursing facility in Douglas, Michigan after a lengthy illness. She was born in Chicago October 29, 1931 the daughter of Rose(nee Wach) and Frank E. Franek both of whom are deceased. She is survived by her husband of over 63 years, Edward M. Alfich, her son Paul I. Afic, daughter Lynn J. Alfich, grandchildren Jillian and Ben Alfich and their mother Barbara Alfich.
She is preceded in death by her sons Edward W. Alfich and Dr. Robert A. Alfich (Barbara).
She was born and lived much of her life in Chicago where she enjoyed the company of many wonderful lifelong friends and neighbors some of whom she knew since high school. She loved flowers and gardening, an interest she shared with her mother. Joan and Ed retired to Peoria, Arizona in 1997 to be closer to their grandchildren Jillian and Ben. They moved to Douglas, Michigan to live with son Paul in 2015 and both resided at Grace of Douglas most recently.
After raising 4 children she enthusiastically returned to the workforce in the 1970s and the eighties as an administrative assistant to then Cook County States Attorney Richard M. Daley and then to the U.S. Attorney's office led by Dan K. Webb and later Anton R. Valukas. She proudly worked on court documents for many of the important trials of the 1980s in Chicago. Joan came out of retirement in her seventies to work in her son's, Dr. Alfich, Sun City, Arizona medical practice for many years.
