Heartfelt and prayerful condolences from the Chicago Police Chaplains.  John will be remembered at our next Police Mass (Sunday, 12 FEB, 11:00 a.m. at Mercy Home - 1140 W. Jackson Blvd).      This sudden and unexpected calling by our Lord of our beloved John compels profound reflection for us all. As best as words can express, I offer a heart felt sincere empathy and prayer for all who knew John as a brother, father, husband, niece, nephew, cousin, friend and a "brother in blue". 

     Like his father before him he was a person of humble integrity who lived his life with dignity and grace. He carried his father's name well. May his son be so blessed and honored. 

     John, for me as a young boy and his cousin, was a role model of manhood. Much of what I thought a man should be I found in him while sharing the joys of a Thanksgiving meal when the men would swap "war stories" and loosen their belts a notch or two. This young and vibrant John is forever etched in my memory. May we all hold him in our hearts, each in our special way, as we recall and hold dear the man that was and is John B. Segers, Jr. May God embrace him.

What does one say about a cousin who always made you feel welcome and could make you laugh at a drop of a hat ?  You will be missed cousin,but never forgotten.  May God take you home now John and comfort your loved ones here.  I won't say good-bye, I'll say, see you on the other side .

May God bless you in this time of sorrow. Colleen, you have lost too much ! May John be in Heaven two hours before the devil knows he's dead!

Colleen, I am so sorry for your loss. John was a man who certainly gave of himself to his community through the Chicago Police Department and the United States Air Force! I know he will be missed by many!
