Joseph “Joe” Michael Takacs Jr., aged 69, of Hometown, IL passed away peacefully on Monday, March 23, 2026 in his home. Born the youngest of two children on January 3, 1957 to Sarah (Scanlon) Takacs and Joseph Michael Takacs Sr., he was raised in the Bridgeport neighborhood with his sister. He later resided in the Ashburn area and then the southwest suburbs. He married his wife Cecile (Abramowicz) in 1986, and welcomed their only child Dawn in 1988. He was a dedicated railroad (Metra) employee for forty years before retiring in 2017.
Joe was an amateur photographer for decades with an interest in many subjects. He had a lifelong interest in meteorology and never passed up the opportunity to share his vast weather knowledge. He enjoyed reading and doing word search puzzles. He was a Bears and Cubs fan. He was truly one-of-a-kind, full of quirks and a quick wit that left a lasting impression on many. He could make you laugh without even trying. His personality and sense of humor will be greatly missed.
Preceded in death by his parents Sarah and Joseph Takacs, he is survived by wife of thirty-nine years Cecile, daughter Dawn, sister Mary (Ray) Munoz, seven nieces and nephews, and various other family members and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2026 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 W 103rd Street in Oak Lawn, IL 60453 with a service at 7:00 pm. Private Interment.
