Joyce Kay Keithley

Dr. Joyce K.Keithley, PhD, 79, was born in Springfield, IL to Eileen (McCausland) and Everett K. Keithley. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, sister Jeanne Keithley and brother in law Ken Gouveia, and her best friend and longtime companion, Dr. Robert Libman. Survivors include sister JoAnne Jackson and brother Ken (Colleen) Keithley. Also surviving are an uncle Vernon (Doreen) McCausland and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joyce loved growing up on her parents’ farm and appreciated the sound education she received at Bath Grade School and Balyki High School, two small rural schools. She was a trailblazer and nurse leader at Rush University Medical Center, Chicago, for 45 years, and was nationally and internationally known for her nutrition and HIV/AIDS research. In retirement, she was an active volunteer with the Chicago Bird Collision Monitors, a group that rescues birds that collide with Chicago’s tall buildings during spring and fall migration.

Contributions to Mason District Hospital (Havana, IL), Chicago Bird Collision Monitors, and Rush University Medical Center are appreciated. No services will be held.
