Judy Margaret Barker

Born in Chicago on March 1, 1944, Judy was the second of three children. She is survived by her brothers, Charles Decker of Kankakee, Illinois, and Thomas Decker of Chicago.

Judy and her husband first met at a friend’s house in Chicago during the memorable Chicago Bears–New England Patriots Super Bowl in 1986. What began that day grew into a loving partnership spanning 40 years, including 37 years of marriage. Together, they made their home in Oak Lawn for 27 years, sharing a life filled with family, faith, music, sports, and countless memories.

Judy was the loving mother of two children, Ernest Durham of Cape Coral, Florida, and Michelle of Addison, Illinois. Her family was at the heart of her life, and she expressed her love for them through her strong faith, kindness, and devotion.

A prayerful woman, Judy lived her faith each day and shared her warmth and love not only with her family, but also with her friends and those around her. She was a longtime member of New Hope United Church of Christ in Oak Lawn.

Judy had a lifelong love of music and movies. A talented dancer from an early age, she enjoyed both classic and modern popular music throughout her life. She was also an enthusiastic Chicago sports fan and especially enjoyed watching games alongside her husband, Michael.

Judy earned her GED and went on to become an accomplished secretary. She continued her education at Wright Junior College in Chicago, where she pursued studies toward an associate degree.

A Memorial Visitation for Judy will be held at New Hope United Church of Christ, 9717 S Kostner Avenue, Oak Lawn, IL on September 28, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 am.

Judy will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her enduring faith, her love of music and dancing, and the many years of companionship and love she shared with those closest to her. Her memory will remain forever in the hearts of her family and friends.
