Kevin Gerard Fabish, Born on January 11, 1956; Son of Mary Clare Fabish (1914-1967) and Thomas F. Fabish (1914-1982). Loyal brother to Mary Ann, Todd, Sheila, Bernard, Philip, Edward and Celeste. Loving uncle to countless nieces and nephews. Devoted father to daughter Claire Allison Fabish and son Nicholas Saxon Fabish.
Born in Chicago on January 11, 1956, Kevin Gerard Fabish was the youngest of eight children. He grew up in the Marquette Park neighborhood, graduating from St. Adrian's Grammar School in June 1969. As a member of St. Adrian's Class of 1969, Kevin distinguished himself on the football field as a halfback, also in the school band, playing alto saxophone. Music was a burning passion for Kevin, who was particularly fond of Motown, many Classic Rock ensembles, and the hometown "rock band with horns" CHICAGO.
Always curious about everything. Kevin loved to read and usually had a stack of books to recommend to others. During high school Kevin studied the martial arts with great passion, achieving rank of brown belt.
After graduating from Leo High School in June 1973, Kevin worked in Chicago until Spring 1975, when he and a group of fellow musicians moved to Champaign-Urbana in downstate Illinois. They called their rock band FREEWHEELIN' and made the university town of Champaign-Urbana their home base until 1981. As a regional favorite with a strong following on many campuses, FREEWHEELIN' toured a great deal throughout the Midwest and recorded several singles and albums. In the 1980s and 1990s, the band evolved into a distinctly different ensemble called THE DANCING NOODLES. They continue to perform in Chicagoland area 35 plus years later.
In 1992 Kevin married Jackie Hale, and they had two children; daughter Claire Allison and son Nicholas Saxon. Devotion to their children was always the ultimate priority. Kevin worked 10-12 years for Federal Express into the 90's, later after passing his Series 7 Exam, a significant phase of Kevin's life was spent in the financial services industry. The most important part of his life, Kevin always insisted, was his family. Kevin expressed his love fiercely and unconditionally toward his eldest sister, Mary Ann, and her husband and family, as Kevin gradually became enfolded into every aspect of life on 85th Street. It is impossible to convey in words how steadfast, strong, and generous Kevin was to those he cared about. He was the best friend anyone could have in times of trouble. As a family man (son, brother, uncle, father and more) and as a friend, Kevin Gerard Fabish was a gift to one and all. His protective instincts, compassion, life long love of music and love of his children Claire and Nicholas remain his legacy.
The family extends their deepest gratitude and special thanks for the friends and care of: Mike Blake, David & Cher Becker, Peter Butler, Maureen Moore-Schaeffer, Brenda Berton Falzone, our Advocate Medical Team and Hospice professionals, thank you for your compassionate home care of Kevin.
