Kevin J Joyce

Born on November 23, 1958, in Chicago, Illinois, to Robert J. “Bud” Joyce and Frances R. “Fran” Joyce, Kevin was proud of his Chicago roots and remained devoted to his family and friends throughout his life.

For more than 40 years, Kevin dedicated his career to serving Chicago Public Schools, where he made an impact on students, faculty, and coworkers alike. A skilled bricklayer by trade, he later owned and operated his own construction company before concluding his career as an Operating Engineer. In every role, he earned the respect and admiration of those around him through his strong work ethic, dependability, and willingness to help others. He was also a proud member of Operating Engineers Union Local 399.

Kevin never met a stranger. He loved sharing stories, making people laugh, and spending time with those around him. Whether spending time with family and friends or enjoying the warmth of the Tucson sun, he brought kindness, humor, and authenticity wherever he went.

Kevin was the beloved husband of Dawn Joyce (née Major); loving father of Kevin Ryan (Stephanie) Joyce; cherished grandfather of Ella Marie Joyce; dear brother of Deborah Joyce; and a fond uncle, godfather, cousin, and friend to many. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert J. “Bud” Joyce and Frances R. “Fran” Joyce.

To those who loved him, Kevin was known as “The Iron Horse”- a nickname that reflected his strength, resilience, dependability, and the quiet determination that defined his life. One of the greatest joys of Kevin’s life was becoming “Papa” to Ella Marie. The memories they shared will be cherished by his family forever.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends.

Visitation Thursday, 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 W. 103rd St., Oak Lawn. Funeral Friday from Blake-Lamb Funeral Home to St. Linus Church for Mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment St. Mary Cemetery.
