

Kevin P. McGrenera, 47, devoted husband of Michelle, dear father of Gabrielle and Paige. Cherished son of Kevin McGrenera and Joan McGrenera. Beloved brother of Michael McGrenera and Colleen (Nikolaos) Tsapaliaris. Fond uncle of Evangelia and Stefanos Tsapaliaris. Much loved by his aunts, uncles, cousins and many good friends.
Kevin began his law enforcement career with the Crestwood police department, followed by Countryside police. In 2004, Kevin joined the Illinois State Police, Cadet Class 108, in District 15. Kevin was promoted from trooper to Sergeant and eventually to Master Sergeant. He spent 8 years in the District 15 Canine program with his canine partner, Keno. While in this position, he developed, created and implemented an advanced canine program through extensive networking and training, that is still in use today. His other career highlights include various K-9 demonstrations, tracking down armed robbery suspects, recovering illicit narcotics, with 989 vehicle searches and 137 criminal arrests. In 2012, Kevin also received the Life Saving Award. He was a part of the DNC transportation team, in which he was entrusted to escort the highest officials and congressional leaders. In his most recent position of the Troop 5 dayshift Master Sergeant, he served over platoons A and B.
Beyond the badge, Kevin was an avid car enthusiast. Kevin participated in many car shows and competitions, as a proud owner of a 2009 Corvette Z06. He reveled in watching NASCAR races. He was a terrific cook who enjoyed sharing his culinary talents with family and friends. Kevin enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved attending concerts with his family, traveling, and hosting family and friends in his backyard oasis.
He was loved by many. Rest in peace, Kevin.
Visitation will be held at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 West 103rd Street, Oak Lawn, IL on Sunday September 13, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A Funeral Service will be held at St. Gianna Parish (formerly Queen of Martyrs), 10233 S Central Park Ave, Evergreen Park, IL on September 14, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
A Committal Service will follow at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery & Mausoleum, 6001 W 111th St, Alsip, IL on September 14, 2026.
