Kurt was a stand up guy and his Integrity and work ethic were beyond reproach.Kurt's  legacy to the ISP is very large.Linda and are saddened by his passing.

I just heard this very sad news.  My heart goes out to Kurt's family and all his colleagues in Chicago.  I was Chairman of the HIDTA Board when we hired Kurt and it was one of the best decisions we ever made.  A truly dedicated, honest and hard working public servant and good friend.  He will be missed.  Our prayers to all.

Kurt was a true friend to many of us from the Ohio State Highway Patrol. He and Mike just instructed at our Academy last month. A great embassador for law enforcement that worked hard to bring us together for the good of society. Also an all around great individual! We will miss you very much!!!

Kurt was a dear friend, colleague, mentor, teacher, fellow ISP officer, fellow retiree and HIDTA boss. He knew and influenced so many over the years, raised everyone around him up a notch.  If you had not seen him recently he was still on his game, in his element, passionate as ever.  Our thoughts and prayers to Susan and his family he loved.

We knew Kurt both professionally and personally.  He was a great guy who could be could be counted on when in need no matter the issue.  He is gone far to young.

Kurt was a very smart man.  He was kind, thoughtful and always willing to help if he was asked.  He was our "go to guy" for any legal advice or questions.  He was a part of our family and he will be greatly missed. We are deeply saddened for such a loss.

My sympathy to your family! I recently communicated w/ classmates of Kurt's on Facebook, & thus saw the announcement there. My Mother, Bride O'Malley of Dawes Elementary, had taught Kurt, Jim Chin, & other students about whom she spoke glowingly! I recognized Kurt's name as I did Jim's from hearing my Mom speak of them so fondly. I'm sorry I wasn't able to pass this on to Kurt. Again, my sincere sympathy!

Kurt had a unique enthusiasm for finding ways to solve important and complex problems with great personal wamrth, humor, deep intelligence and persistance. His passing is a huge loss.

So sorry to her of Kurt's passing.  We attended high school together and had a couple classes together. Our paths crossed only a few times over the years, but it was always great to see him. My deepest condolences to the Schmid family. Some of my fondest memories during my career with the Illinois State Police come from my time spent with the Technical Investigations Unit (TIS) under Kurt's command. May he rest in peace.
