LaVerne Love

LaVerne Love, age 76 passed away at home on Sunday September 3, 2023, in Flossmoor IL. She was born in Chicago, IL on September 17, 1946, the daughter of William Edward Jones and Dorothy Mae (Brown) Jones. LaVerne was a graduate of Thornton Township High School and Chicago Teachers College, and she received her Master’s degree in education from Governors State University. She worked for many years as an elementary school teacher in the Chicago Public School system and later worked for and retired from a non-profit organization “Jobs For Youth” where she helped place many young people in productive and rewarding jobs. She was also an active member of her church, New Faith Baptist Church International in Matteson IL, for over 45 years.

LaVerne is survived by her loving sisters Regina McNabb, Willetta Wordlaw and Omi Joni Jones; nieces Melanie Neely and Leigh Gaymon-Jones, nephew Marcus Wordlaw, grand-nephew Malachi Neely, sister-in-law Sharon Bridgforth, and brother-in-law Courtney McNabb. She is preceded in death by her father William Edward Jones, mother Dorothy Mae (Brown) Jones, and her foster son Clyde Cooper.

LaVerne will be greatly missed and loved into perpetuity by her family and longtime friends: Linsey Savage, Ja’Netta Muhammad, Judy Earley, and James Tolbert.
