I remember Mrs. Klawitter’s warmth and vibrant personality as my sixth grade teacher at Goodlow magnet.  I also remember her beautiful swishing skirts, and that sometimes at lunch she would pull out a clothing catalog and let us lucky girls help her pick out new outfits that she later would wear to school.  She had a rare charisma, humor, and compassion that made me feel safe, even as an awkward young teen at my new school.

Sixty years ago this past June,  Linda, I, and 400 other students walked across the stage of Lindblom High School after receiving our diploma and shaking the  hand of Harry F. Yates, principal.  Our class of 1966 had been awarded the most scholarships in our school’s history.  We were “baby boomers”and  we had every intention to leave our mark on the world.   Some of those footprints left were small but others were well defined.  Back then, in class you sat alphabetically and so it was in those “block” classes for smarter students.  My surname was Luth and then came Sharon Marynowski, Linda’s lifelong friend, and the next was Linda McCarthy.   Gym class had us lined up that way too.  I was a peer.  Linda’s smile was contagious back then. She seemed to have endless energy.  I think she worked on the school’s yearbook and that group of friends had fun times in the yearbook office.   I knew her as we were selected to be on the GAA Board ( Girls Athletic Association).  Our jackets were navy with navy socks, white blouse and skirt, and with those unforgettable saddle shoes.   We shared many meetings, events, teas and so many volleyball games.    She had a bubbly personality and had many friends.  But our time at LTHS ended.   Our class had reunions every five years.  I would see her then and we shared a brief hello but there were many others to meet again and greet.   This picture is how I recall her at our final 50th reunion in 2016.  Linda McCarthy was a well known name in the class of 66.  She was one of the top ten students and also in the top scholastically. 
It is a honor to say I attended HS with her sixty years ago and I have only good thoughts of her.   I extend my deepest sympathy to her husband and family and to her longtime best friend Sharon.  She made a lasting impact in the world of education.   Mr Yates would be proud of her, a LTHS alumnus, and her accomplishments and the legacy she leaves that inspires.  Rest in peace, fellow alumnus.  You did good.

Mrs. Klawitter was one of my favorite teachers ever! She made the classroom a fun place by doing things like rewarding us with wafer cookies for memorizing poems, telling us stories about past classes of hers, complete with sound effects, and making a different student “superstar” each week so we could tell everyone about all our favorite things on a poster board at the front of the class. I will never forget Mrs K!

Oh! This makes me so sad. I really loved her. Mrs Klawitter was such a warm loving teacher who made theives of all of the kids she interacted with better.

I LOVED Mrs. Klawitter. So sad we were not in more frequent contact. I treasure her Christmas notes.

So sorry to hear of her passing. She was a dear friend of my sister and though I was in my early childhood I remember her as a warm and funny and caring individual.  May she rest in peace.
