

In 1949, Marva, her mother and father, Eddie Allen moved to Chicago, Illinois. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Beautiful Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1406 West 64th Street in Chicago, Illinois.
Marva was educated in the Chicago Public School System. She graduated from Lindbloom High School in 1967. Following graduation, Marva took additional courses at Harold Washington College (formerly Loop College) and Olive-Harvey College. She was formerly employed with Spiegel Department Store, the United States Census Bureau, and the Chicago Board of Education.
In 1976, Marva married Thomas Jefferson (“Big Jeff”) Riddle. To this union, two sons were born, Jeffrey (“Baby Jeff”) and Bradford. In 1981, Marva married John Henderson. To this union, one daughter was born, Lakeisha. Marva was a proud resident of the Englewood community and lived on 61st and Ada for nearly 60 years. In 1980, Marva joined Greater New Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 5537 South Racine, Chicago, Illinois. She was a very active and dedicated church member and president of the choir for many years. Marva was an accomplished vocalist and led many solos with her rich and powerful voice. On April 24, 1994, she was ordained as a Minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Marva was preceded in death by her parents, three siblings, Eddie “Leon” Allen, Elliott “Del” Allen, Floyce Allen, and husband John Henderson.
On March 1st, 2024, at 4:30am, the Lord quietly dispatched an angel to peacefully escort Marva home.
She leaves to cherish her memory sons Jeffrey (Shelly) Riddle and Bradford Riddle; daughter Lakeisha Watson; grandchildren Jalyn Riddle, Jeffrey Riddle II, and Quindell Watson; brothers Curtis Powers, Edison Powers, Leslie “Chubby” Allen, and Jeffrey (Patricia) Allen; sisters, Regina Stingley and Sheila (Phillip) Johnson. Marva will be deeply missed by her immediate family, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, godchildren, and a host of friends.
