Milton Eugene Buckner was born to the union of Claude and Addie Mae Webster-Buckner on March 13, 1933 in Keokuk, Iowa. He was the ninth of eleven children.
After graduating from Fort Dodge-Iowa High School, Milton enlisted in the U.S. Air Force as an Air Policeman where he served for four years, receiving an honorable discharge in 1956. During his time of military service, he was presented with medals of the National Defense Service, United Nations Service, Korean Service and Good Conduct. Following his honorable discharge, he relocated to Chicago, Illinois and attended Columbia College where he earned a Baccalaureate of Arts Degree.
Four years into his Chicago residency, Milton met and united in Holy Matrimony to Shirley Johnson. This union was later blessed with a daughter, Monique.
Milton continued to pursue a civilian career with the Federal Government in different appointments as a United States Post Office Supervisor, Veterans Administration Supervisor and Department of Labor Investigator and Compliance Officer. Throughout his tenure of thirty-five years, Milton’s dedication earned him numerous distinguished awards including the Bronze Award which is the highest recognition in civilian Federal Government.
In his formative years, Milton was a part-time corporate apparel model, a passion that transcended as a professional tailor and designer. His impeccable style was exhibited through the designs that he wore with pride, or tailored for other clients.
“Family” was his nucleus—the center of him. He was the teacher and mentor who could relate to your oppressions, aspirations, achievements or happiness. He was the reverential surrogate father, the favorite “Uncle Milton” or “True Friend” to many family members, associates and colleagues who could rely on his loyalty and practical and emotional support. His insight and wisdom were insurmountable. Loving and respecting God, as well as seeking higher education were values that he intended to instill in people.
With an athletic background, he was passionate about participating in several sports and applied his fitness skills to maintaining a healthy lifestyle even through his later years in life.
Following his retirement, landscaping yards and gardens became one of his pastimes. Entertaining family and friends and serving them his delectable culinary specialties as the pseudo “chef” was another recreation.
He had great affection for his pets and treated them as if they were his children. They loved Daddy.
Milton was a man of distinction with a heart of gold.
After fulfilling his earthly mission assigned by the Lord, Milton made his transition to his new home in Heaven on July 28, 2016.
His beloved wife, Shirley, both parents, six brothers-Clifton, Floyd, George, Nathaniel, Claude and Gerald and two sisters-Edith and Ruth preceded him in death.
