Nicholas C. Connelly, age 74. U.S. Coast Guard Veteran. Beloved son of the late Nicholas M. and Eileen (nee Sullivan); loving brother of Lynne (Gary) Penrith and the late Patrick and the late Michael (Virginia) Connelly; cherished uncle of Matthew, John, Michael, Nicholas, Patrick and Margaret Connelly; fond great uncle of many; dear friend of Carol Collins, and many other great folks. Called by some "the last of the Damon Runyon characters", Nick wasn't one for crowded elevators or airplanes, but he so loved the simple pleasures of life; hanging out with his buddies; the enjoyment of a good home-cooked meal; riding his bike along the lake; a great round of golf, especially if he won; all music Frank Sinatra; and festive family holidays. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, Nov. 3rd at 10:00 am at St. Michael Catholic Church in Old Town, 456 W. Eugenie Street, Chicago. In lieu of flowers donations to Marillac St. Vincent Family Services/Santa Mike Fund, 2145 N. Halsted, Chicago, IL 60614 would be appreciated.

I met Nick at St.Ambrose. He was always very friendly & a caring guy. We played golf & had dinner several times with the Ambrose group & he was always enjoyed being with the group, having a good time & reminiscing about life at ST Ambrose. Very generous & just a good person. I'm sure he's on the back 9 playing golf & hoping to beat Bill Carney on the last hole. God Bless Nick Connelly.

I had the pleasure of meeting Nick a few times while visiting Mike and Virginia. One night we got to discussing jazz and Nick mentioned a song he loved but couldn’t find. I had my iPhone and was able to buy the song and play it for him and then email it to him. It’s always nice to remember a pleasant memory.
