

Dr. Olufemi Oke Adeniji, a cherished soul, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2025, in Chicago, IL. Born on March 28, 1947 in Lagos, Nigeria to Elijah and Comfort Oke, Olufemi’s life was a testament to devotion, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to God, his family and education.
Olufemi completed his high school education at Ekiti Parapo College in Nigeria and later served as the President of the Ekiti Parapo College Student Association USA for several years. He graduated with a Bachelors from Bishop College and his Masters and PhD from the University of North Texas.
Olufemi utilized his vast knowledge and expertise for the betterment of society. He was the first Nigerian principal of the Chicago Public School system and opened the door for several other Nigerians and Africans to enter the education sector. As a respected scholar, he dedicated his life to learning and education. His passion for his career was rivaled only by his love of God. As a writer, he authored “Steps to Heaven”, a guide on how to live on earth.
Olufemi was preceded in death by his loved ones who guided him throughout his life. He is survived by his wife, loving children, grandchildren, and a host of brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles who were his greatest pride and joy. He was a beacon of strength to his family, a pillar they could lean on in times of need. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his beloved family and all those he touched with his wisdom and kindness.
In recognition of his accomplishments, Olufemi leaves behind a legacy of profound contributions to the education community and to the Church. His life was a testament to diligence, humility, and an unwavering commitment to service. He has served as an altar worker and teacher of Foundation of Faith classes for newcomers to the Lord. His traits, which included a warm heart, bright smile, sharp intellect, and an indomitable spirit, were an inspiration to all who were fortunate to know him.
Olufemi’s life was filled with love, laughter, and a steadfast dedication to his family. His personal message to all was to live life with purpose, love God with all your heart, and make a positive difference in the world. These words of wisdom will forever resonate in the hearts of those he has left behind.
In remembering Dr. Olufemi Oke Adeniji, we celebrate a life well-lived, a legacy of love, and a commitment to God, family and education. He was a beacon of hope, a pillar of strength, and a guiding light for all. His spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched.
A visitation for Olufemi will be held Thursday, August 14, 2025 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 West 103rd Street, Oak Lawn, IL 60453, with a chapel funeral service to immediately follow beginning at 11:00am. Interment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Evergreen Park, IL.
