Patricia Rae Meyers

August 25, 1939 – January 12, 2022
Obituary of Patricia Rae Meyers
IN THE CARE OF

Blake-Lamb Funeral Home

Patricia "Patti" Meyers, 82, of Oak Lawn, IL passed away surrounded by family on Tuesday, January 12, 2022.

Patti attended St Sabina's Grammar School, Mercy High School, and St. Xavier College, in Chicago, IL and graduated from Northern Illinois University, where she earned her master's degree in vocational counseling.

Patti had many interests, including studying the lives and history of Indigenous people–she even had some of her research published. Above all, she loved her family, those she grew up with and those she found during her painstaking genealogical research, which included traveling to Utah and beyond to search through historical records. She stayed current on everyone's lives through visits, phone calls, and during Covid, through social media, email, video calls, and by connecting with newfound branches of the family tree from around the world.

She had a passion for the arts, often found painting, drawing, and creating beautiful pieces under the pseudonym Kateri, and was fascinated with writing stories, screenplays, and connecting with other like-minded people through a multitude of screenwriting groups and writing courses.

Patti was preceded in death by her beloved husband James (Jimmy) Meyers, adored parents Michael R. (Carolyn Goeb) Lawler, and many other relatives and friends.

She is survived by her favorite sister Carol (Lawler) DiMuro, favorite brother Michael R. (Nancy Kuna) Lawler, her incredible step-daughter Kelly Meyers, and was a special godmother to Laura (DiMuro) Lowe and Jeannine (Lawler) Szostak. She was also a cherished aunt, great aunt, great-great aunt, cousin, in-law, and friend to so many people, including her treasured family of ducks and minions.

A celebration of life mass will be held at a later date when it is safer to gather in larger groups.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to honor Patti's memory may be made in her name to the International Myeloma Foundation, Mercy Home for Boys and Girls in Chicago, or the Kateri Center of Chicago.
