Born in the mountain village of Elikonas, Greece, on March 5, 1938, Peter immigrated to the United States in pursuit of a better life and the American dream. He built a life marked by hard work and unwavering devotion to his family, settling in Chicago, where he became the proud owner of Starlight and Miss Muffet—beloved neighborhood restaurants and a reflection of his warm and generous spirit.
Peter was the devoted husband of Eugenia Kioussis (née Verros), with whom he shared over 60 loving years of marriage since their union in November 1963. Together, they raised a beautiful family and created a home rich in love, tradition, and faith.
He was the cherished son of the late George and Maria Kioussis, and the loving brother of the late Eleni (and her late husband Dimitri) Liakos, the late Asimo (and her late husband John) Papathanasiou, and the late John Kioussis (wife Goldie).
Peter was the brother-in-law to the late Fotini (and her late husband Manoli) Drogossis; the late Panagiotis (and his late wife Eleni) Verros; the late James (and his wife Katina) Verros; the late Louis (and his wife Petroula) Verros; the late Evagelia (and her late husband Dimitrios) Psyhogios; George (and his wife Toula) Verros; Vasiliki (and her late husband Petro) Doukas; the late Thanasis Verros; and the late Tasia Verros, who passed at birth.
Peter’s legacy lives on through his children and grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of his life:
George Kioussis and his wife Angela, and their children:
Maria Kioussis (husband Adam Larimer), Jenna Kioussis (fiancé John Halfman), Eleni Kioussis (husband Ben Christensen), Patricia Garrett-Kioussis (husband Alex Garrett-Kioussis)
Mary Gavrilos and her husband Savvas Gavrilos, and their children:
George Gavrilos (fiancée Yasmin Tootla), Eugenia Gavrilos, Peter Gavrilos
Sofia Georgelos and her husband Georgios Georgelos, and their children:
Victoria Georgelos, Eva Georgelos
Peter was a gentle soul—quiet, steady, and full of heart. He never complained, always listened, and truly cared about the happiness and well-being of his children and grandchildren. He loved life deeply and made friends wherever he went. Everyone who met him wanted him to be their Pappou (Greek for grandfather), too.
A lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, he followed the stock market with curiosity and conviction, and lived by the values of hard work, integrity, and staying true to one’s roots.
He will be remembered for his kindness, his deep love for family, and his enduring faith. His memory lives on in the many lives he touched and in the hearts of those who loved him.
May his memory be eternal.
