

A visitation for Roy will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 West 103rd Street, Oak Lawn, IL 60453.
Roy Arthur Farmer Sr. was born September 2, 1952 to Walker and Ruby Farmer in West Monroe, Louisiana. Roy accepted Jesus the Christ as his Saviour at the early age of 10 at St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church in West Monroe, LA.
Roy graduated Richardson High School with honors. He later graduated with a B.A. from Grambling State University in Political Science and Pre Law.
Roy later moved to Chicago from Louisiana in the early ‘70s where he joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Emanual King. Following, under the leadership of Elijah Childs, he was ordained a deacon in January of 1993. Continuing his servanthood in the gospel ministry, he was ordained a minister under the leadership of Pastor Everette Hurley at Divine Mercy Seat in Harvey Illinois.
Roy married his friend of seven years, Wileaner Chambers on February 12, 1977 in Chicago. Through that union, two children were born: Roy Arthur Farmer Jr. (1980) and Dana LaKisha Farmer (1983).
Roy’s servanthood outside of the church, consisted of his work at the Juvenile Detention Center as an administrator, floor manager and assistant superintendent for Cook County. He continued his passion for helping others following his retirement from the Juvenile Detention Center, in his work as a case worker for the Illinois Department of Human Services until he went home to glory.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Walker and Ruby Farmer.
On Sunday, January 21st, 2024, God the Father called Roy A. Farmer Sr. home.
He left behind to cherish his kind and loving memories, his wife of 46 years, Wileaner Farmer, son Roy A. Farmer Jr.(wife Irene), and daughter Dana L. Farmer (Lopez- husband Juan Carlos); three brothers: Jeff (wife Vickie), Curtis Sr. (wife Patricia), Walter Sr. (wife Carmen); 4 sisters: Shirley, Barbara Williams, Lorene (husband Larry), and Saundra Marshall (baby sister); mother-in-law Ruby Chambers; Sister-in-law Shelia Orange; bother-in-law Dean Chambers; four precious grand-children: Ciana, Maleia, Marissa, and Diesel. Other loved ones include fun-loving nieces and nephews, a host of in-laws, church family, work family and community friends. Roy will be missed, loved and cherished.
