She is survived by her loving husband, Matthew Roland Sr., of 39 years. Sherry attended Charles Carroll Elementary and Bogan High School and later pursued her education to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
Her career reflected her heart—she spent the last four years working in Assisted Living and Memory Care communities and brought 28 years of experience as a hospital nurse. Sherry loved caring for patients, residents, and families, and she believed deeply in creating true team environments for her staff. She worked to keep the atmosphere around her happy and joyful, and she especially treasured the relationships she built in Memory Care and Assisted Living—always doing her best to support residents and provide the highest quality of care.
Outside of work, Sherry poured her heart into her children—Matt Jr., Brittany, and Sean. Being their mother was more than she ever imagined. She cherished the good times, and even when life wasn’t easy, she never lost her way of making things brighter. She loved planning themed parties, down to the last detail—decorations, the cake, and everything in between. Her cake was always chocolate with strawberries between the layers.
Nothing brought her more joy than seeing her family’s faces light up.
Sherry also loved family trips—whether it was planning adventures to the Smoky Mountains in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, or finding her way to the ocean at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. And if it wasn’t planning a trip, you might find her bringing something home—sometimes buying out a whole store knowing Matt would have words to share. But through it all, there was one thing that never changed: nothing kept her from putting a smile on the kids’ faces.
If you knew Sherry, you knew she loved getting her nails done every two weeks. You would often see her colorful shirts, jeans, and jean jacket—always casual, comfortable, and full of personality. She also had a love for Coach. From purses to her eyeglasses, even down to her perfume. Her collection was something special. Her love language was gift giving- her eye for style, theme, and thoughtful person touch was unmatched by anyone.
Her home reflected her love. If you walked into Sherry’s house, you would see family photos displayed across the walls, on the fire mantle, and throughout the home—every surface holding a memory. The air always carried a sweet fragrance, too. You might catch a candle lit and a scent sprayer working its magic now and then. Sherry loved the smells of coconut, strawberry, and the scents of the season, making even the simplest moments feel warm and welcoming.
Sherry was especially proud of her two sons. Both chose to serve in the Chicago Police Department. Even with the worry that came with that path, Sherry’s pride never wavered—she had their stars made into necklaces, wearing them above her heart until her dying day.
And then, her heart grew even fuller when her daughter blessed her by becoming a grandma. In her words- “Glam-Ma.” This part of her life was just beginning, and Sherry never hid how grateful she was. She was overjoyed to meet her granddaughter, Lilly, and her grandson, Brooks—being the first in both hospital rooms to welcome them. From the start, she spoiled them with love and affection, and she never missed a chance to remind them how deeply they are loved. She also never missed an opportunity to walk through their door with a bag of new clothes or toys. Towards the end, she often said, “she didn’t have enough time with them.”
She is survived by her husband, Matthew; her eldest son, Matt Jr.; her daughter Brittany (Zach Jahns); her youngest son, Sean; her granddaughter Lillian; and her grandson Brooks. Her brother, Jonathan Seeh (Denise); Cherished dogs, Nala & Kiara.
