Thelma arrived on June 11, 1928, in Columbus, Georgia to proud parents Roger and Willie Mae (nee’ Johnson) Kimbrough. She had automatic playmates in her siblings, brothers Ernest, James Willie and George; and sisters Rose, Eddye, Mattie Lucille.
In 1952 she moved to Chicago, Illinois where she married Robert Louis Mitchell in 1954. Together they bestowed upon the world five sons; Leonard, David, Dennis, Gregory and Anthony. It was less than fifteen years later that Robert would pass away.
Thelma had the full support of the Mitchell family after Robert’s passing. This is where love showed up in a mighty way. The Mitchell family were front and center to assist in every way possible. The brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law were present and actively aiding and supporting the family. Thelma and the boys wanted for nothing. Every holiday, birthday or a “just because” day was always spectacular. The magnificence of life is when LOVE shows up. Without ever asking, LOVE can show up, without any expectations of reciprocity.
Church was a highlight in her life. Thelma loved and followed the Word. She embodied what it means to be a Christian. She also had great fondness for animals. She shared her love with her several cats, and her dog, Queenie. She enjoyed going on shopping trips with family and friends, dining out, all the while sporting any one of her many beautiful hats.
Thelma leaves to celebrate and share fond memories of her through her sons: Dennis and Anthony, daughter-in-law, La Vonne (David, deceased), grand children: Leonard, La Trena, Brandon, Devin, Courtney; six great grandchildren. A host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
