

William Donald Black, age 90, of Granger, Indiana passed away July 13, 2020. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 3, 1929 to Anthony and Eleanor Black. He grew up in Chicago and attended St. Rita School and St. Rita High School where he enjoyed playing football and graduated in 1948. He joined the Naval Reserve in 1948 during the Korean War and was a photographer. Upon returning home after 5 years in the Navy he went to work at G.A. Mavon & Co. in 1953. He continued to work there for 47 years, retiring as Senior Vice President of G.A. Mavon/Mavco in 2000.
Bill was a musician, he enjoyed playing the piano and accordion, and was the leader of a band in his teenage years. He was an artist in oil painting and scroll sawing. He was also an avid skier and worked on the Ski Patrol at Wilmot Mountain for 45+ years. He also enjoyed many summers at Bass Lake, Indiana where he was an excellent water skier.
He married Donna Killackey in 1959 and they had 2 children, John & Catherine. They lived in Oak Lawn and were in the St. Linus Parish. He is survived by his good friend and companion Joyce Fletcher, his children, John (Michele) Black and Catherine (Jerry) Ison, 3 Grandchildren, Collin Prizy, Matthew and Lauren Black, his Stepson Ryan (Jessica) Fletcher and their children Emerson and Owen.
Bill was one of four children, his older brother Robert Black and his older sister Frances Trotter, both deceased and survived by his younger sister Jacqueline Chalmers. He also has many nieces and nephews.
Bill will always be remembered for being a good father and grandfather, a kind and caring man and a good friend. He will be greatly missed.
