My deepest sympathies for the entire Vanek family.  I have only known Bill for 2 1/2 yrs, but we became fast friends and there is now a hole in my heart.  Rest Peacefully Bill, until we meet again.......

"IT WAS A SIMPLIER TIME"

Bill and I met at St. Cyril's school back in the late 1950's. I lived at 49th & Wolcott and Bill lived at 48th & Honore.  We were about 1 1/2 blocks apart.  We could walk to each others houses to play.  Bill would come over and we would play in the big lot next to our house or I would walk to his house.  I remember shooting Jims(?) BB gun from the back porch window on Honore at targets or birds that landed in the backyard (never hit a one!)
This was not a play date arranged by parents and we weren't driven to each others houses.  
It was two kids having fun 1960's style.
and we did not "Shot an eye out!

Lost a great  friend of over 50 years this week - Bill you will be missed.

Prayers go out to the Vanek family. I am happy to say, I had the privilege meeting Bill sixteen years ago, when our family moved in next door.  Bill was the best neighbor I could have ever asked for.  I will miss our conversations at the fence, while throwing treats and toys over to our dogs. Bill you will be greatly missed.

Jim, my thoughts and prayers are with you, and all those close to Bill. It was special for me to see Bill and you last year.  I very much enjoyed talking with each of you and reconnecting with family ...cousins of my Dad (Tom Vanek) that I've known mostly in name all these years and remember along with my very fond memories when little of your Dad delivering our milk.  My time spent with Bill was not long but somehow touched me.  I'm so very sorry for your loss.

I will miss you, Uncle Bill.  We were just talking about you Saturday night.  We wanted you to meet a 5th grade boy who was totally hooked on any WWII, just like you.  RIP, Uncle Bill. Love you
