Angelina Valverde,, “Angie”
On May 29, 2026, Angelina (Angie) began her new journey to meet her lord God in heaven.
She was born on August 2, 1928 to Juan Cantabrana and Leonor Gonzales. She had 4 brothers. One brother passed during World War II and the other three all passed in their later years. Her father passed in 1974 and mother in 1998, Angelina survived them all and she always expressed her missing them.
In the 1990’s, about 7 ½ years, Angelina cared for her mother full time until 1998. She moved to her mother’s house in Carlsbad during that time from Anaheim and was eventually joined by Charles “Carlos” when he finally retired. During that time frame and beyond she also took care of Jose Cantabrana through November 2017. In October 2016, she took care of her other brother Louis Cantabrana for 2 years due to his illnesses.
Jose and Louis shared a room for 1 month and it was so precious for her to have them together for such a short time, but she always cared for her family.
On October 15, 1949, Angelina married the love of her life Charles “Carlos” Valverde, and they celebrated a 73 year marriage until his passing on September 17, 2022.
In 1950, Angelina and Charles Valverde, had a first son Tom and in 1952, had a second son Dave. Her sons combined produced 3 grandchildren and those grandchildren produced 5 great grandchildren.
Angelina education was only up to 8th grade, she was quite a smart and witty woman of her time. She would spend many hours with her eldest grandson during his college years playing Scrabble and she knew her stuff. She was also a bowler in her younger years and she must have been a very competitive soul then too.
While Angelina was primarily a home maker, she did work outside of the house in the 1980s for a short time at a local travel lodge in Anaheim.
As for her family, she always loved to do anything and everything to make them happy. Holidays were extra special for her because she would have family and friends over. She always was ready to cook or get ready for her kids, grandkids and great grandkids to come over and spend time playing games and talking about whatever was going on in the lives.
Together, her and her husband made a home that was open to their family and friends. They both enjoyed so many parties, dances, family outings, trips across the country, trips to Mexico and of course 35 different California casinos, not to mention Las Vegas trips too.
Angelina was a woman who left a lasting impression in all that met her. Whether it was her friends over the years or family that she may not see all the time, she always loved to see people and visit with them. She especially loved to spend time with her sons, daughter-in law, god-daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Her love for life and people (family or not) was her greatest gift to us all and she is a shining example for us all.
