Arati Bhattacharyya, at 81 years old passed away peacefully with her daughters at her bedside on Sunday July 25th in her home in Encinitas, CA. Arati emigrated from India to the United States in 1969 with her beloved husband, Sitansu K. Bhattacharyya who predeceased her in 1988. She was a trained medical physician in Pediatrics, Internal medicine, and Psychiatry and worked in the US as a physician for over 30 years.
She is survived by her two daughters Lily Bhattacharrya, Gargi Cooper and her 3 grandchildren Priya, Arjun and Lakshmi Cooper. She was a devoted friend, sister to her living siblings (Archana Das Gupta, Bithika Bhattacharrya, Bisu Mukerji and Juthi Mukerji, and daughter to her parents Kalinath and Indrani Mukerji.
Arati was a devotee of Self Realization Fellowship since 1974. She moved to Encinitas in 1996 and became a part of the SRF community where she was a regular attendee of weekly meditation services, served as a Chapel sitter and cooked regularly for Day of Service when her health would allow. Arati was dedicated to her God and Guru and his sacred teachings. She loved to share her Bengali cooking and tend to her garden. Arati believed in giving back to her community and supported many charitable organizations, her preferred charity was supporting Doctors without Borders.
