Arlette Glaser, age 93, of Oceanside, CA, passed away early on September 20, 2022, after a short illness. She is survived by her brother, Dr. Robert-Maurice Laurent; son, William; daughter-in-law, Eileen, and cousin, Bunny Abraham. Arlette was born in Marseille to Isaac and Rachel Levy, parents who encouraged a lifelong passion for music and art. After returning to the U.S., she studied piano, and developed her talent to become a concert pianist, most notably performing at the Philadelphia Academy of Music. Arlette also had a long career in commercial art, with Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, where she was Chief Commercial Artist, and later as a freelancer. After moving to Oceanside in 1986, Arlette returned to the piano, and spent many years offering instruction and encouragement to young players. Arlette continued her art, as well, with many watercolor landscapes and portraits, and a self-portrait on her birthday for each of the last 20 years.
Arlette had a love for nature, for helping others, and for reading, enthusiasms that she passed to her son. She enjoyed spending time in the many preserves and parks of North County and always made sure her son would get to see a new one with her each time he visited. She traveled widely all her life, enjoying many visits to Europe, and throughout the United States, many times with her dear brother and best friend, Robair. Arlette’s greatest passion was her family, and they will sorely miss her grace, kindness, gentleness, intelligence, and love.
The family asks those wishing to honor Arlette to contribute in her memory to the Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego or to Buena Vista Audubon Society.
