Arthur & Mieko Rodrigues

Arthur (Rod) was born in Cumberland R.I. September 16, 1920

They met in southern California in 1965 through mutual friends and were married in 1967 where they began their life of 46 years together.

Rod was a dedicated Marine who served in three wars. He retired as SGTMAJOR after 31 years. He continued his commitment to the military by working for the VA for 26 years and the VFW post for 16 more years. This was a total of 73 years of Service to his country! His commitment to Mieko and his children Michael, Christine and the military was considered more than honorable.

Mieko was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Anyone who knew her had never met a more kind and generous person. For her it was thinking of others that was always most important and came so naturally. She was extremely proud of her culture, a very talented seamstress, and active in the Japanese community center where she did classical Japanese dance and Karaoke. She was very lucky and loved to play Bingo at her Catholic Church St. Patrick’s. She won almost every Friday but was more excited about giving her money away to someone in need instead of keeping it!

It is not sorrow Rod and Mieko would want for their passing but happiness that they both have a piece of our hearts and will remain there forever.

Their love and commitment to one another was more than we will ever know as they died only 5 days apart.
