Barbara was a 1949 graduate of Sweetwater High School in National City, CA. She worked for the city of National City for several years before the family moved to Vista. She worked for the Vista Unified School District for over 20 years.
She married Robert “Bob” Meech on February 22, 1953, at the Marine Corp Recruit Depot in San Diego. They were married for 58 years. She was a dedicated Marine Corp wife for 27 years.
She was active with several clubs and organizations around Vista. Moonlight Angels, Girls Inc., Vista Youth Bowling, Vista Little League, Vista Historical Society, Vista PTA, and the Community Church of Vista. As an active member of the Moonlight Angels, she & her husband housed several actors over the years during the summer season.
She loved cooking, entertaining, gardening and traveling. She loved singing in her high school choir as well as the choir at her church. Her and her husband Bob were avid Padre fans. After church on Sundays beginning around 1948, she would take the bus to Lane Field to watch the Pacific Coast League Padres play ball. She and Bob would go to Yuma and Peoria for Spring Training. There is a mural at Petco Park that has a date of May 2, 1949, she made a comment that if that’s a Sunday, I’m most likely sitting in the stands. Sure, enough it was a Sunday.
She is preceded in death by her husband Robert “Bob” of 58 years, her grandson Ryan Folmer, step-grandson Troy and her beloved dog Maxie. Most recently, her niece Margie O’Conner of National City.
Barbara is survived by her 3 children. Her daughter Sharon Meech Folmer, her two granddaughters Heather Folmer (Matt Lagerstrom) and Jessica Folmer Ducsay (Travis Ducsay and her first great granddaughter Nora). Her two sons: Richard Meech and Robert Meech (Lori Meech and Lori’s children Carissa Lewis and Tyler Medearis and their children: James, Aurora, Saros, Mason and Leah).
Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside memorial service at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Oceanside, CA.
