Betty Kitchin, a cherished member of her community and a beloved friend to many, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2024, at the age of 103. Born in Wisconsin on October 4, 1920, Betty's life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and compassion. Betty dedicated 31 remarkable years of her life to educating young minds as a Middle and High school teacher at Jefferson Middle School and Oceanside High. From 1948 to 1979, she touched the lives of countless students with her infectious passion for learning, unwavering commitment to excellence, and compassionate guidance towards their success. Betty shared a deep and enduring bond with her beloved husband, Bob Kitchin, who passed away in 2006. They first met at a dance at Carroll College in Waukesha, Wisconsin. They married one month before he was sent to the Pacific Theater as a Marine in the Second World War. Their love story spanned an incredible 64 years of marriage.
Their shared passion for education extended beyond the classroom, as they both embraced lifelong learning and shared that passion with just about everyone they met. After retiring, they both became pilots and took to soaring through the skies in their own plane. Later they embarked on countless globe-trotting adventures, traversing continents, and immersing themselves in the rich tapestry of cultures and landscapes that the world had to offer.
Throughout her long and fulfilling life, Betty's adventurous spirit, coupled with her warmth, and kindness, endeared her to all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was known for her warm smile, her gentle spirit, her love of life and positive outlook on all life brought her way. She was especially grateful for the blessings of family and good friends – and there was so very many of those of all ages!
While Betty may no longer be with us in body, she will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to share in her remarkable journey. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the cherished memories of a life well-lived and the enduring love of those who were blessed to know her.
