- Mr. Nguyễn Bội was born on July 7, 1929 in Bình Lãnh, Bình Sơn, Quảng Ngãi, Việt Nam, a province in Central Vietnam. He was the second oldest in a family of 12 children, which included 7 boys and 5 girls.
- In 1941 at the age of 12, at the blessing of his family, Mr. Bội was the only one in his family to ask to be converted to the Catholic faith. He was then taken in by his god parents, Mr. and Mrs. Câu Mười, who provided guidance and helped him through catechism, and he was eventually Baptized in 1942 at the age of 13.
- In 1942, he obtained his elementary school degree during the French occupation, which was equivalent to high school. After that, he was allowed to be a teacher. While he was focused on his academic education, Mr. Bội continued to learn and enhance his Catholic faith.
- In 1944, at the age of 15, Mr. Bội along with Deacon Nguyễn Đức Thống of Redemptorist Chúa Cứu Thế, were selected to travel to Phú Quý Parish, Quảng Nam, Việt Nam (Central Vietnam) to teach catechism as well as academics for 3 years.
- In 1947, at the age of 18, he followed Father Tường of Bình An Parish in Quảng Ngãi, Việt Nam to teach catechism and academics.
- In 1953, at the age of 24, Mr. Bội married his bride Nguyễn Thị Thay. He and his wife lived in harmony, and always had the utmost respect for each other. They were blessed with 7 children which included 2 boys and 5 girls.
- From 1966 to 1975, he was an employee for the U.S Embassy in Quảng Ngãi, Vietnam.
- On April 27, 1975 Mr. Bội along with his wife and 6 surviving children immigrated to the U.S. as refugees and started their new life, first in Woodburn, Oregon, then in Mt. Angels, Oregon. In 1978, the family moved to Oceanside, CA and has been there ever since.
- On July 27, 1989, he attended the Cursillo 189 course, a Catholic religious group, at Marywood, and became an active member.
- On January 16, 2013 at 10:07 p.m., Mr. Bội was called to be with God at the age of 84 at home, surrounded by his loving wife, all his children and their spouses, many grandchildren, cousins, brother in law, and loved ones.
- Throughout his life, Mr. Bội always sacrificed himself for the happiness of others. Despite facing many obstacles and having limited resources when the family first moved to the U.S., Mr. Bội was able to successfully raise all of his children, who are educated and successful in their careers, and went on to have loving families of their own. Equally as important, he always encouraged his children to serve God, their parish, and their communities.
- During the years working under the guidance of Father Long, Mr. Bội often volunteered to teach catechism at home.
- Mr. Bội often prayed, sacrificed, showed self-restraint, and led by example. As a result, his entire family, including his aunts, uncles, sisters and brothers were able to follow in his footsteps and convert to the Catholic faith.
- Throughout his life, he devoted his life to serving God and the Virgin Mary. He is often seen praying with the rosary in his hand whether he's at home or at church.
- Our love for him is never ending as he will forever be a shining example for all of our family to follow.
