

Carl Keith Sycks, son of Robert E. Sycks and Helen H. McFarland, passed away October 16, 2023, at his home in Carlsbad, California. Born in Coshocton, Ohio, he was a 1958 graduate of West Lafayette High school where he played varsity football, basketball, and baseball. During his high school and college years, he was a lifeguard and swimming instructor at Forest Hills Lake, Fresno, Ohio.
Carl is survived by his wife, Kumiko; son, Keith (Christy) Fabiano; daughter, Kelly (Louis Alexander) Richardson; and son, Todd (Hong) Sycks. He had four grandchildren, Zackary Sycks, Brooke Fabiano, Kelsey Sycks, and Meiqi Digioia. He is also survived by his sister, Carolyn Nash of San Juan Capistrano, Ca., and brother Robert (Judy) Sycks of Canal Winchester, Ohio. There are one niece, one nephew, and several great-nieces and great-nephews who also survive him.
A graduate of Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, Carl was employed as Supervisor of Manufacturing for Campbell Soup Company from 1968 to 1972; Director of Manufacturing for Abbott Labs from 1973 to 1980; Vice President of Operations for Dow Chemical company in Greenville, SC, from 1980 to 1990. He lived in Tokyo and Hong Kong for seven years where he was Vice President of Dow Brands Pacific, a division of Dow Chemical from 1990 to 1998. Carl retired from Dow Chemical International Pacific as Vice President in January, 1998.
After retirement, Carl and Kumiko moved to Carlsbad, California. He enjoyed playing golf, reading, and doing volunteer work. He prepared tax returns for senior citizens through AARP, and volunteered as a mediator between residents of Carlsbad for the City of Carlsbad. He also volunteered his time with several other organizations, and was a retired board member of his homeowner’s association.
